As the seasons are changing and the weather is starting to become a bit calmer and warmer, I've been thinking alot about layers. I do think about layers alot anyway. I love to layer my clothes. I like to be just the right temperature, not too hot and not too cold, and I do also find layers to be incredibly versatile and really flattering. I like to wear a tight cosy polo neck underneath with one of my hi-neck tops, or a shirt over the top. Then when the weather gets warmer I can swap what I'm wearing underneath for something a bit less cosy and continue to wear my top as the weather improves. I love the idea that my garments are flexible enough to span seasons; it's good for the planet and as they are handmade using really good quality fabrics, they should last a long time too.
Anyway, back to layering. Last summer, I created a pattern for a vest top, which was great for the summer and I made some in gorgeous vintage fabrics. Recently, I've wanted to continue to wear my cosy polo neck underneath but with something a bit lighter, over the top. So I've used my vest top pattern, and made a tank top, using some gorgeous thicker damask fabric. Picture is below. It's a really simple design, but they are my favourite sort. I think it works really well, it's a good shape, really easy to wear, works well with lots of outfits and I'll be able to change up what I wear with it as the weather gets warmer. So it should be a trusty addition to my wardrobe for a long time to come. I plan on making some more of these to bring to my next market.
Hooray for the warmer weather!
